Corona crisis: how we kept operations running

In mid-March 2020 Germany, France, Italy and Spain closed their borders practically simultaneously. For a forwarder serving 25 countries this was a shock.

Freight transport classified as essential

Fortunately freight was quickly classified as essential. Border checks however caused jams up to 50 km.

What we learned

• Crisis communication is everything. We informed twice daily.
• Drivers need appreciation and better conditions.
• Liquidity is survival-critical in crises.

And today?

Much of what arose out of necessity in 2020 — digital papers, hygiene standards, flexible dispatch — is standard today.
